Nucleation is a common phenomenon in science and nature.More and more attention is paid to the nucleation. When a thermodynamic system is about to undergo a first order phase transition, nucleation is the appearance of the first tiny nuclei of the new phase in a metastable mother phase. There exits two methods to treat nucleation: thermodynamic method and kinetic method. In this paper, these two methods are applied to the simple hard sphere system respectively. Through the comparison of two methods, the critical nucleation condition can be illustrated in the hard sphere system. The results show that: 1.When the density is constant, with the increasing of the volume fraction, the nucleation is easier to occur, that is to say, the critical size is smaller; 2.When the volume fraction before the nucleus is constant, the greater the bulk density of the particle, the more difficult for nucleation, thus the critical nucleus size is greater. In addition, the nucleation rate J is derived by using the method of dynamic, and then applied to the simple hard sphere system.
