The shallow sea of Hainan Island is rich in heavy mineral resources, such as ilmenite,zircon, rutile etc, which play an important role in national economics construction. Known as“the third metal after iron and aluminum”, titanium is widely used in aerospace, medicalequipment and other aspects of the national economy; while Zirconium is mainly used in steelproduction in monolithic refractories and refractory bricks of raw material, zirconium also is anuclear reactor structural materials and preparation of zirconium and hafnium control rodsirreplaceable raw materials, making it an important strategic material; its alloys widely usedin atomic energy, aerospace, machinery, military, anti-corrosion and other industrialmachinery and equipment, hailed as “strategic metal” and “the most promising metal inelectronic technology”.China is one of the countries in the world rich of zirconium and titanium resources, whileHainan is one of provinces in China full of the resources, the reserves played an importantrole in the country of similar deposits, there are good prospects of zirconium titanium oreplacer mineral resource characteristics and advantages of Hainan Province. Based on “shallowsea (under70m water depth) of the east of Hainan Island zirconium titanium sands resources", zirconium titanium sands were targeted by single-channel seismic marine geophysicalexploration and other comprehensive geological exploration work. Implemented in the regionsingle-channel seismic survey, single-beam bathymetric synchronization, sediment columnsampler, sedimentary dynamics survey, geological shallow drilling and sample test analysisand so on. Preliminary identification of the characteristics of the topography in the region,changes in the characteristics of the water depth, type and distribution of sediments,submarine loose sedimentary strata shallow structure, deposition power status quo; the initialidentification of placer mineral composition, the main mineral content, and material phase,particle size, mode of occurrence, nature and degree of dissociation mineralogy and otherfeatures. There are two newly discovered rutile, zircon sands body, both large scales.The survey has been proved that the single-channel seismic marine geophysicalprospecting and comprehensive geological exploration methods in Hainan shallow sea placerexploration titanium zirconium good results, to achieve the desired objectives.
