Precipitation measurement provides significant information of global energy and hydrologic cycle balance, which is very important for hydrological research and water resource management. Meteorology satellites help better understand the process of precipitation variation. In particular, TRMM series precipitation measurement product improves precision and accuracy of precipitation estimation.Lake Poyang, the largest lake in China, encounters several environmental problems, such as the shortage of water resources, the water level drops, and the lake’s degradation. The analysis of water volume in Lake Poyang Basin provide scientific basis of resource management and usage. The estimation of water volume balance requires high-precision precipitation estimation product and hydrology model. In this paper, TRMM 3B42 and monitor site data in Lake Poyang Basin is used to analyze the precision of precipitation of each version of TRMM product, followed by analysis of Xin’an Jiang Model and VIC model. At last, VIC model is used to prove the precistion of TRMM data in Lake Poyang. We found out:(1) Yearly, the TRMM 3B42 precipitation data generally match the actual annual precipitation in all basins, the bias of products are about 10%, and they show the rainfall turn to araise from From southwest to northeast. However, the accuracy of V6 and V7 turns to degrade with finer temporal scale, which is more apparent in V6 and RT V6.(2) As the terrain and the large water area; the accuracy of TRMM precipitation data turn to drop down. Especially the V6 and RT V6, the R2 have droped 0.2~0.3 than V7 and RT V7; the accuracy of V7 and RT V7 is better in all temporal scale and every basin in the Poyang Lake basin.(3) The application of xin’anjiang and VIC hydrological model is good in Poyang Lake basin. Especially in ganjiang basin, their Nash efficiency coefficients are above 0.8. It can reflect the daily runoff change in xinjiang basin by the VIC, but Nash is low to about 0.6 because of the Basin area is too small and reservoirs.(4) The VIC simulation results of runoff of TRMM turn to bad in summer, it may cause by Human activities and high precipitation. The VIC simulation result of runoff of RT V6 is worse with the low Nash and the high RB. It has been change in RT V7’s results. V7’s performance is better than V6 as well.TRMM product is applicable to Lake Poyang Basin, especially TRMM V7, which was improved in terms of measurement precision and hydrological usage, revealing potential in hydrology management and usage.
