The deformation failure and the stability of slope are now the hotspots and urgent problems in the field of geotechnical engineering. Inevitably, more and more construction that been carried out in the mountain area are suffering from the slope deformation and failure. So it’s necessary to do further study on the structure, type, mode of deformation and failure and mechanism of different slope. This paper has conducted a research on Huanghaowa slope, based on collected geological data, detailed field investigation, through the analysis of the type of Huanghaowa slope and its stability influencing factors, used finite element numerical simulation to do a systemic research of the slope deformation and failure mode and mechanism were involved in, and evaluated its stability, we carried out the following work:(1) Taking Huanghaowa slope deformation failure as an example, by organizing the field investigation data, combined with the existing slope research data summary, studying and analyzing the structure, type and deformation failure mode of Huanghaowa slope.(2) Dividing the facotrs that affect slope stability into internal ones and external ones from the initial point and process that affecting the stability of the slope, conducted a further study on the internal and external factors that affect the stability of the Huanghaowa slope.(3) Establishing numerical models based on different structure types of Huanghaowa slope, using Midas GTS finite element simulation software to do numerical simulation analysis, through the analysis of the stress and strain variation of the slope in different areas under different conditions, studying on Huanghaowa slope deformation failure mechanism.(4) Doing a comparative study on different slope stability evaluation theories and methods, using Swedish slice method in limit equilibrium theory, Bishop method and Janbu method calculating stability of different types of slopes and making comparison between finite element numerical simulation results of strength reduction method, evaluating comprehensively the stability of Huanghaowa on the reference of the qualitative analysis of slope stability.The conclusion of above research has certain value as reference on soil slope deformation failure mechanism study and Huanghaowa slope control project.
