Shanmu river in the world natural heritage, is an important functional river in Shibing County. The heavy metal pollution to the river carries the characteristics of long incubation period, high toxicity, obstinacy and ability of enrichment, causing a great harm to the surroundings` ecological environment, agricultural safety and inhabitant’s health. The combination of diatom species even some single diatom specie have a great biological indication function towards water environment. To do research of the relationships between diatom with TN, TP and relative heavy metal under the condition of Karst rivers` ecological environment, providing theoretical foundation for water quality monitoring of Karst Area Rivers. This article treats the Shanmu as the object of study, setting up 27 sample points totally to study the relationships between Shanmu`s planktons and benthic diatom with nitrogen, phosphorus and heavy metal. Following are the main results:1. Shanmu`s planktonic diatoms are identified 132 species(including mutations), belonging to 2 classes, 6 orders, 11 families and 175 genera, Shanmu`s benthic diatoms are identified 2922 species(including mutations), belonging to 2 classes, 6 orders, 11 families and 22 genera.2. According to the measuring towards TN, TP, Cu, Cd, Cr,As and Hg of Shanmu River, finding each element`s distribution exists obvious discrepancy and all element are under standard except individual points。3. The relativity between the abundance of planktonic diatoms and element Cd is-0.494(P<0.01), highly significant differences, and the regression equation is y=34.490-340.523x; the relativity between the abundance of benthic diatoms and TP is 0.493(P<0.01), and its regression equation is y=31.259+236.6293x; the relativity between the abundance of benthic diatoms and element Cu is 0.772(P<0.01), and its regression equation is y=12.933+88.857 x.4. The relativity between planktonic diatoms of Cymbella and element Cd is negative relativity(r=-0.478, P<0.01). Cymbella anculi Cleve and Cymbella bustedtii Krasske are indicator species towards Shanmu River`s heavy metal pollution. The relativity between benthic diatoms of Nitzschia and element Cd is positive correlation(r=0.466,P<0.01). Nitzschia inconspicua and Nitzschia fonticoia Grunow are indicator species towards Hongsuihe River`s heavy metal pollution. The relativity between TP and the abundance of Fragilaria is 0.527(P<0.05), Fragilaria construensis the indicator species of TP pollution.
