In this paper, prospects for shale gas exploration in the Chuxiong Basin is the main content.According to the geological background of Chuxiong Basin,tectonic characteristics, sedimentary characteristics, the shale thickness, thermal evolution and gamma can spectral features etc. We have a conclusion that the Late Triassic strata of Chuxiong Basin has a good geological condition of the shale gas conditions.There is a good prospect for exploration of shale gas exploration in the Chuxiong Basin by summary the basis of shale gas domestic and foreign research progress and prospect evaluation method,the evaluation index, explaining 342D seismic profiles and supplemented by field geological survey.The Chuxiong basin has only limited geological data, and the development of shale gas is still in the exploratory stage. Through the research of this paper, we can draw the following conclusion:1. The Chuxiong basin has experienced multi tectonic movements, and it is a complex area of different periods and different tectonic types. Field geological survey and seismic data interpretation indicate that the faults are developed in the study area and the fold is strong. We should pay enough attention to the influence of tectonic deformation strength on shale gas in the process of shale gas exploration in the Chuxiong basin because preservation the deformation intensity of the structure has a certain influence on shale gas. There have some damaging effects of the gas accumulation,such as the development of the crack, syncline and anticline is narrow or steep will promote the disappearance of shale gas, especially on the fracture after repeated reversal complex place of shale gas.2. Acording to the geological survey of Chuxiong basin, we find that black shale, inferior coal or coal segment line in the southwest of the basin is developed.There have a good geological condition of the shale gas conditions by testing the samples in laboratory. The organic matter is rich in the Triassic strata of the western basin and has higher degree of thermal evolution.3.The Late Triassic shale of Chuxiong Basin formed in a reducing environment. The shale main types of clay minerals mixed layer illite,.The shale has high brittleness mineral content and the brittle is moderate, it has a good comprehensive evaluation.4. The structural mapping indicates that the center of Triassic strata subsidence in the vicinity of Dayao Yao, the deepest in Yao’an County more than 3000m.Triassic strata as the area of shale gas exploration target layer has thicker deposition in the western part of the basin,the thickness is more than 100m.The formation of the area meet the geological conditions of shale gas reservoir in thickness.5. The southwestern of Chuxiong Basin have developed multiple high-quality shale. Shale gas in the western can be divided into two exploration favorable prospecting area, the most favorable area is in the southwest of the Shuangbai County and the second best area is in the southwest of Yao’an-Nanhua area. According to this paper, we suggest that we should increase investment of shale gas exploration in the Chuxiong basin.Shale gas in the Chuxiong basinhas broad prospects in oil and gas resource exploration strategy. As unconventional natural gas, the development of shale gas has obvious reality. With the continuous study of shale gas resources in the Chuxiong basin, the exploration and development of shale gas will achieve a qualitative breakthrough.
