GIS has been applied to various fields of society and economy, however, the higher professional requirements of GIS and data sources hinder the development speed of GIS socialization and popularization. Video technology is one of multimedia technology, has been already introduced into people’s daily lives. Generally, the video data is regarded as a special property, far from being fully utilized. Video GIS, combined with video data and GIS, is expected is expected to be one of a breakthrough to resolve the GIS plight.The research of video GIS tend to focus on the video data acquisition devices, associations between video frames and GIS features, spatial information inquiries on video frames and so on, rarely pay attention to how to achieve GIS function based on the general video and existing equipment.The paper uses the theories and technologies of video moving object detection, geographical registration and spatial correction to obtain raster and vector data from the video data, with a lot of indoor and outdoor practice. On the basis, uses C# with Visual Studio, AForge, ArcEngine, Developer, SQL Server and Geodatabase software to build extraction and analysis system of geographic information based on video data.Main works:1) Introduces video moving target detection technology for different video types and scenarios, verifies the feasibility of extracting geographic information from video through several tests, and achieves the effective management of video data.2) Establishes the extraction and analysis system of geographic information, achieves the conversion and validation among video, 2D and 3D.3) Achieves spatial analysis functions such as spatial measurement, visible analysis, through the inverse transform, reaches the visualization of analysis results.The paper proceeds from the GIS development and plight, based on digital video and control points data to extract geographic information, in order to make an attempt to GIS socialization development.
