The deviated well has come into broad applications, driven by the complex drilling targets and geological conditions during oil field exploration and development in recent decades. The technology of horizon identification has been widely used in the further exploration and development of reservoirs with particular trapping mechanisms and distribution patterns as one of the key technologies for refined reservoir descriptions and reservoir studies. The good performances resulting from deviated well technology are shown in special traps with lithology and fractures stratigraphic unconformities, low permeability, high steep structures, and so on. In software developer’s opinion, the difficulties of deviated well software are mainly focused on the realization of the software tools including the display technique and the human-computer interaction technique. On one hand, the horizon identification technology and software are currently relatively mature and have achieved pretty good results overseas, but on the other hand, they have their own separate implementation strategies and application effects. So far the software named GeoEast designed by BGP could be applied to tectogenesis explanation, attribute analysis and reservoir inversions, achieving successfully structural interpretations in two-three joint work areas and developing its significant features in abstracting and analyzing seismic attributes. As the applied range increases and exploration business expands continually, the more needs of users boost the further development and improvement of GeoEast. Up to now, However, GeoEast has the disadvantage to making synthetic seismograms and horizon identification of deviated wells, which causes the distinct difference with other software products(e.g. Landmark) from the abilities of making and displaying the synthetic seismograms in deviated wells. This paper focuses on the working process of synthetic seismograms in deviated wells and algorithm implementation in GeoEast. It is able to accomplish the functions of making synthetic seismic records and calibrating horizons indirectly, calculating the projection of well tracks, making synthetic seismograms overlapping with the borehole-side seismic traces and displaying the lithology and well curves. And then the precise calibrating results are obtained through controlling the calibrating methods, such as the manual or automatic corrections and assistant reflection coefficients. Finally The GeoEast achieves a nice software tool of horizon identification for vertical wells and deviated wells by the functions of displaying, human-computer interaction and manual or automatic corrections. The realization of deviated well calibration walks a big step toward to enhancing ability of GeoEast to solve geology difficulties. It also lays a good foundation to extensive application of GeoEast and leads to great economy and social gains.
