Geographical condition monitoring is to count elements such as geography,transportation,water and surface coverage and so on and analysis and evaluate the spatial and temporal characteristics and development trend of geographical conditions by utilizing modern surveying and mapping technology and existed results of surveying and mapping.The extraction of surface coverage classification is the basis of geographical condition monitoring.It’s also an important means to obtain the information of geographical conditions and grasp the basic situation of natural,ecological and human activities. Extraction of surface coverage elements is an important basis of information statistics and publishing of geographic information.Shanxi is a province with wide range and large area of coal field.This paper selected Ningwu coalfield areas and Pingshuo minining areas as the research object,extracted the surface coverage and analysised the change.It has a certain significance to explore the geographical conditions of Shanxi coal mining area.Using Landsat5 TM and Landsat8 OLI images as the basic data in Shuonan mining area as the study area. Compared the classification result of maximumlikelihood, support vector machine and object-oriented method used in coal mining areas from the accuracy of classification and the integrity of map spot.Extracted the surface coverage of Ning Wu coalfield areas by object-oriented method in 1995, 2006 and 2014.Based on the statistics of surface coverage,analysised the conversion chenge of surface coverage from 1995 to2006 and 2006 to 2014 in Ning Wu coalfield areas.Using a single dynamic index analysised the dynamic degree of Ningwu coalfield areas from 1995 to 2006 and2006 to 2014.Summarized the change information of surface coverage in Ningwu coalfield areas between 1995 and 2014.Analysised the characteristics of surface coverage in Pingshuo mining areas combined the natural geographical features and special surface features formed by open-pit mining. On the basis of above analysis, made the classification system of surface coverage complianted with Pingshuo mining areas. Extracted and statisticed the surface coverage information in 1995,2006 and 2014 combined visual interpretation and object-oriented method.Analysised the conversion of surface coverage in Pingshuo mining areas from 1995 to 2006 and2006 to 2014 by transition matrix.Analysised the spatial pattern change of surface coverage in Pingshuo mining areas.According to the experimental results and related analysis, got conclusion and pointed out contents that need further study.
