Mengku iron deposit is located in the north of Altay plates-Siberia plate---Kanas–Keketuohai palezoic-magma arc(Ⅰ2-13) of Altay early Paleozoic epicontinental active belt. Iron ore mainly occurs in the lower devonian system, which is under the Kangbutiebao Formation, mainly Kelanfu syncline iron ore of closed in linear compound drape structural belt in Altay has important influence and control effect for iron ore, included stable orebody, enrich grade. It is primarily composed of magnetite, containing a small amount of hematite.Based on the project of “the east section no. 1-9 orebody geological characterization of Mengku iron deposit”, through previous geological data collection, the detailed field geological field work, combined with magnetic anomaly and its iron point ground reconnaissance prospecting in Altay, comparison with the magnetic anomaly and iron ore and Mengku iron, studied on the regional geological conditions, geological background, orebody characteristics, ore genesis and prospecting marks and syncline important control action, this paper come to a conclusion that Mengku iron deposit is a Marine volcanic eruption sedimentary- metamorphic hydrothermal ore deposit, which has a certain guiding role of looking for the same type iron ore in Mengku region.This research mainly has the following main result and cognition: Mengku iron deposit formed in a complex tectonic movements ore-forming geological tectonic environment, belonged to the middle Altay mountains fold system, the mantle slope belt(fold orogenic front).1. According to Ore and surrounding rock temperature, the regional metamorphism temperature closed to the ore-forming temperature, ore-forming materials contained organic matter, which is related to sedimentation.2. Sulfur isotope is the type of volcanic, and the sulfur source is endogenous. At the same time, the volcanic bombs appeared in the mining area.3. The breccias and taxitic structure appeared in the iron ore; the late calcite vein, local ore body and surrounding rock are interspersed, with obvious features of late upgrade.4. Surrounding rock contains marble laminated, and the sea lily stems external mold, and none of terrigenous clastic deposits, etc., it showed that the entire process of volcanic activity was in shallow sea environment.From the above characteristics can be concluded that Mengku iron deposit is a marine volcanic eruption sedimentary- metamorphic hydrothermal deposit.5. The stratabound characteristics of deposit is obvious, overall composition is syncline, which form in the trend of syncline core with a thickening of the rich ore bodies.6. Preliminary analysis shows that the Mengku iron resources have huge potential.
