Natural gas hydrate is a new type of green energy in twenty-first Century. All countries in the world are eager to develop this kind of energy to meet the needs of the society. Since natural gas hydrate is found in 2008, Sanlutian of the Muli Coalfield in Qinghai has been becaming a popular area of the natural gas hydrates research. In order to facilitate the later in-depth study, exploitation and utilization of natural gas hydrates in Sanlutian, through the series of research methods, sush as the preliminary geological data collection, the field geological profile measurement, geological drilling, logging, gas logging, core analysis, trenching, hydrology geology, geological sample, sample testing measurement in Sanlutian, and the later indoor drawing geological maps, etc, it is grasped basically that the lithologic stratigraphic features, hydrological and geological conditions, the tectonic features, evolution features of the main tectonic movement, the vertical distribution of hydrates in about 600 meters below the surface of the earth, the horizontal distribution of the hydrates in Sanlutian, etc, and the conclusions are drawn. The first, the vertical distribution of natural gas hydrates is not continuous, and mainly distributed in the study area exploration 8 to 13 line in the horizontal direction. The second, coal seam and coal-bearing series can be as the gas source rock, reservoir reservoir, migration pathway of natural gas hydrates. The third, the formation of natural gas hydrates needs the prefect combination of the frozen soil, temperature, pressure, water, gas and other conditions. The fourth, the geological structure, lithology and stratum are the main controlling factors of natural gas hydrate reservoir formation.
