As one of the key rails which China government is planning and building, Da-rui Railway contains the most dangerous mountain terrain conditions and complicated geological conditions, and needs urgently to investigate the engineering geological environment. In order to service line comparison and feasibility study in Lu Jiang segment of Nu River Valley, Meanwhile, provide a scientific foundation engineering geological data for the local economic development and construction, this paper selected Lu Jiang segment of the Nu River valley as study area, then do a research on the engineering geological environment by means of the integration of remote sensing interpretation, field investigation and laboratory testing.Through the investigation and research, the following results are obtained:1. Extract the geological sensing information of the study area by using the ETM and SPOT5 remote sensing image, combining with the use of GIS and 3D visualization of three-dimensional simulation technology to provide information about geomorphology, litho logy, structure, water and adverse geological phenomena for Da-rui railways’construction. The study indicate that the use of remote sensing images for geological information extraction is very time-saving and effective means for complex terrain and difficult work areas. It can make an intuitive quick observation for the full area.2. According to field observations, sample collection and test,and drilling data collection,in the study area ,the rocks can be divided into twelve engineering geological and the solis can be divided into five engineering geological layers. The integrity of rocks in study area is poor and broken. The outcrops are serious weathered, bad for the surface construction and need to be stripped of. The soil mainly distribute in the Lu Jiang valley which is made up of alluvium, proluvium and lacustrine deposits. The bedrock mountain areas are mainly covered by the eluvium. According to the test data, some of the soil around Long dong in the East Mountains of Nu River has swelling property.3. By the means of image interpretation and field oberservation,make an detailed investigation on the engineering geological conditions and problems. Take topography, geological structure, rock properties, groundwater characteristics and adverse geological phenomena into consideration, the study area can be divided into three engineering geological subarea: Alpine bedrock area of deep cutting, accumulation valley soil area, Middle mountains area of medium cutting. All the zones are varying facing many engineering geological problems: bad geological phenomena, karsts issues, high temperature damage, bedding and Spoil environmental geological problems.4. Based on the investigation and geological condition evaluation to the three lines of Da-rui railways, compare the three lines with the engineering geological conditions, the result indicate that the preferred line is superior to the two alternative lines both in the engineering geological conditions and the facing Engineering geological problems. So recommend the preferred line.
