High speed milling cutter is an important equipment to achieve high speed cutting, its structure and materials are directly impacting on cutting performance, becoming an important content on high speed milling cutter technology research and development. The continuous development and application of high speed milling technology put higher requirements on cutting performance. Researches has been done mainly based on analyzing the physical field of the certain material and structure of milling cutter, obtained the cutting performance, ignoring the effects of the interaction of structure and material to its performance and physical field distribution. In this thesis, analyzed the physical fields of milling cuttings with different structures and materials characteristics, obtained the distribution rules of physical fields. According to the rules, refining the structure and materials can improve cutting performance. Therefore, research on cutter structures and materials design features and their physical field distribution reveals the basic laws of high speed cutting has a larger theoretical value and practical significance. The main researches of this thesis are given as followings:Based on the study of affecting factors to the reliability of high speed indexable cutter, proposed failure criterion of high speed indexable cutter, establish reliability model. Based on the analysis of reliability the initial geometric model and the finite element model of high speed cutter were established.Research on load characteristics of high speed milling cutter, establish finite element load boundary conditions of high speed milling cutter. Based on the analysis of physical field distribution, research on effects of multi-physical fields distribution of high speed milling cutter on condition of cutting force and cutting heat load, lay the basic data for structures and materials of milling cutter.According to the features of typical workpiece’s materials, study the distribution of the finite element physical field of high speed cutter. Analyzed on stress field, temperature field, heat-force coupling field and modal field of high speed face milling cutter and ball cutter which cutting aluminum alloy and hardened steel. Obtained the influence of structural design characteristics to the physical field distribution, and provide a basis for the structural design of milling cutter.Plan material design features of milling cutter using the uniform experimental methods. By analyzing heat-force coupling field of high speed face milling cutter, access to the influence of material characteristics to the physical field distribution, establish the regression model of deformation and temperature about design characteristics of the materials, and raise design methods of cutter structure and materials designing matching its speed, lay the foundation of optimal material design.
