In order to improve the bonding strength between the matrix formula and the diamond grains inthe sintered diamond tools, this paper describes a new type abrasive pre-brazed process.Accroding togenerate a metal layer and reduce thermal damage to the diamond, the pre-brazed metal layer on thediaomnd surface are made from nickel-based alloy and copper-based alloy with different separatingagents.The new type abrasive pre-brazed diamod grinding wheels are fabricated and show obviousadvantages over the traditional ones in the grinding experiments. Also, The copper based ones havethe best comprehensive performance of all others.The main research results in the paper are summarized as follows:(1) On the basis of Ni-Cr alloy pre-brazed diamond, realizing the controllable Cu-Sn-Ti alloy pr--e-brazed diamond successfully. The best package solution is optimized by observing the copper basepre-brazed morphology through SEM and mechanical performance tests.Improved the nickel based p--re-brazed reaction model, the copper based pre-brazed enhanced reaction model is put forward.(2) The interface and microtopography of the pre-brazed abrasive itself, together with matrix wi--th formula appear segregation,enrichment and mutual diffusion of the carbides and related elementsby SEM and EDS. Fracture occurs in the matrix layer and the diamond itself, rather than the interfacelayer confirms the high bonding strength in the interface, by fracture analysis through EDS. Deep-etc--hed the copper base abrasive, the edges of abrasive is clear, with little mechanical properties decreas--ed, inicating little damage effects on diamond.(3) A set of manufacturing process is optimized to fabricate the new type pre-brazed abrasivediamond grinding wheel.Increasing granulation and reduction process, coped with the powder oxidati--on problem. On the basis of a mature formula, five kinds of formulas and the corresponding sinteringprocess are adjusted and debugged.Two kinds of matrix formulas are optimized through comparativegrinding experiments with the conventional abrasive grinding wheels.(4) Estabilsh one set of orthogonal experiment,and7kinds of pre-brazed diamond grinding whe-els with different parametric conditions are fabricated.The concentration, size composition, pre-brazedlayer thickness of diamond grains are optimized through G635grinding tests in contrast.
