With the rapid development of economy and the growth of the population, thewater pollution becomes more and more serious. Therefore, the technology ofwastewater treatment needs to be enhanced and improved. In this thesis, using loess(LS), a kind of resourceful natural inorganic mineral, as raw materials, the LS-basedpolymer adsorbents were prepared by simple method, and applied to treat wastewater. The thesis consists of four parts.Firstly, based on introducing the main source of water pollutants and the methodof water treatment, soil materials and their applications in wastewater treatment havebeen reviewed.Secondly, the loess-based copolymer (LS/PAAHM) was used to remove Cu(II) ionand Basic Fuchsin (BF). The adsorption parameters, such as adsorbent dosage, initialconcentration of Cu(II) ion, pH value, contact time and temperature were investigated.Their adsorption kinetic and isotherm parameters were also investigated. The resultshowed that the removal rate of Cu(II) ion and BF got to99.4%and98.2%,respectively. Their adsorption isotherms fit with the Freundlich model, and kinetics fitwith pseudo-second order kinetics model.Thirdly, LS was modified by polyacrylamide by in situ polymerization, whichafforded the loess-based polyacrylamide (LS/PAM). The obtained LS/PAM wascharacterized by SEM, EDS, FT-IR and TG. Their structure and morphology were alsoanalyzed. The results showed the polyacrylamide was successfully composited withloess. Finally, The loess-based polyacrylamide (LS/PAM) was applied to remove Pb(II)and methylene blue(MB). The adsorption parameters such as adsorbent dosage, initialconcentration, pH value, contact time and temperature were investigated. Theiradsorption kinetic and isotherm parameters were also investigated. The result showedthat the removal rate of Pb(II) and MB got to98.4%and98.5%, respectively. Theiradsorption isotherms fit with the Freundlich model and Langmuir, respectively. Andkinetics fit with pseudo-second order kinetics model. In conclusion, the loess, a kind of natural inorganic mineral material, is widelydistributed in our country. The loess-based polymer adsorbent was prepared andapplied to treatment of wastewater. The obtained loess-based polymer adsorbentexhibited excellent adsorption ability in removing heavy metal ions and dye.
