The metal graded material is composed of two rational distribution and uniform transition metalmaterials prepared from laser-forming technology. As a new non-uniform composite material, it hasbeen widely used in high-tech fields such as aerospace and increasingly used as the main load-bearingstructure. Compared to conventional composite materials, gradient materials are easier to get internalcracks due to its complex process. These expanding tiny cracks accelerated the destruction of thematerial and seriously affected the performance of materials. Therefore, the study of metal gradientmaterial fracture problem is of great practical significance in engineering not only for the safe use ofthe material, even for structural analysis and design optimization of the materials. In this paper, the residual strength of metal gradient materials with I crack was observed throughthe test method and the numerical simulation method. A three-point bending test of notchedTC4-TC11metal gradient material was completed. The model of residual strength was built to havea research on metal gradient material with cracks, which based on the Extended Finite Elementmethod. The stress intensity factor was calculated by the method which combined interactive energyintegral with the Extended Finite Element method. The experimental results were compared with thecalculated results to verify the validity of the model. The influence of the material parameters on theresidual strength based on the finite element model were discussed to get some useful conclusions.
