Gallium is a scattered metal, although gallium is widely scattered in nature, it is mostlyassociated with bauxite, sphalerite and coal cake, rarely exists in the form of deposit worthexploiting. With the development of science, gallium has become indispensable for modernhi-tech. Although the world’s reserves are not large amount of metal gallium,China is rich inthe deposit of gallium, the recycling of gallium from mineral, residue and industrial effluentsis of great significance for the efficient protection of mineral deposit and the development ofmodern material technology. Research on gallium extraction method has become even moreattention by researchers, gallium as a scattered elements commonly used wet chemicalmetallurgical methods enrichment and recovery, the current method of extraction of galliumfrom different raw materials are constantly studies, some methods have been get industrialapplications, its economic and social benefits are quite significant, but these methods havesome flaws and limitations,so this article on the basis of previous studies to study the natureand recovery process of adsorption and extraction of gallium in acidic medium, in order toobtain simple process, low cost industrial recovering method of recovery and enrichmentgallium. This study is based Ga3+in acidic medium may be coordinating with Cl-to anionGaCl4-,the anionic with the cationic groups—NH2—of polyurethane foam form associationand the functional groups (C4H90)3P of extraction agent can solution to form a cation(C4H9O)3P=O+H in the acidic medium, the cation can be equipped with ion GaCl4-occurrenceassociation of ion exchange, use this principle as the basis to study on the methods of use thepolyurethane foam adsorption and extraction of gallium and use the TBP-kerosene organicphase extraction of gallium in acidic medium. This paper through polyurethane foam (TBP-kerosene organic phase extraction)adsorption (extraction) and analytical (back extraction) process of various factors singlefactor experiments, optimum conditions for gallium extraction process were obtained, namely:the6mol L-1HCl medium in successive shocks at room temperature for two hours, theadsorption rate under this condition can reach more than98%at a concentration of1.0mol/L, with NH4Cl of pH=5.3, it is resolved in the elution rate of5.03up to97.89%; in6mol/Lhydrochloric acid system with kerosene as diluent, TBP concentration of5%at roomtemperature for5minutes concussion extract proved efficient, the extraction rate of95%for1, C (H+)≈6mol/L, TBP kerosene system TBP concentration of30%, under normaltemperature conditions, the stripping agent is a mixture of ammonium chloride and ammoniacompared whose PH=5.28, a lot of back extraction rate were reached. By studying howinterfering ions (Fe2+, Zn2+, Pb2+) affect the adsorption of polyurethane foam and TBP-kerosene organic phase, it shows that interfering ions have little effect on theextraction andadsorption whereas with increasing Fe3+concentration, gallium extraction rate will dropwhen Fe3+concentration increased to a value instead of rising; through the foam andcontinuous adsorption adsorption the experiment shows that the adsorption capacity of thefoam was28.17mg (g-PU)-1, and the foam can be reused multiple times, thereby reducingcosts. When the concentration of gallium reaches800μg/ml, almost saturated extractant andextracted with saturated capacity of about4400μg/ml.Based on the experiments of polyurethane foam and TBP-kerosene organic phaseextraction of gallium adsorption reaction, three adsorption and tertiary extraction of industrialprocesses experiment were made to trace industrial waste we.In this paper, a preliminary study was conducted to determine the extraction of galliumadsorption polyurethane foam under acidic conditions and TBP-kerosene organic phasereaction mechanism The results represent the first order reaction of polyurethane foamadsorption kinetics, by Langmuir-Hinshelwood model Description; To be calculated that theactivation energy of reaction is54.78kJ mol-1, the activation energy is small,so the reation offoam adsorption gallium can be performed at room temperature and the reaction rate is quitefast; The process of extraction and Enrichment gallium is similar with foam adsorptiongallium, TBP extractant by extraction functional group (C4H90)3P protonation in acidicsolution to form a cation (C4H9O)3P=O+H,the cationic can with ion GaCl4-occur ionsexchangement and associationment to reach the purpose of extraction and recovery gallium.Through experiments and data analysis in this paper shows that the recovery of gallium inan acidic medium is feasible, and got two gallium recovery process conditions and parameters provide an experimental basis for the industrial extraction of gallium method that can be usedto good industrial applications, and will bring a very high social and economic benefits.
