Pick, as the cutting tool of drum shearer, it’s the direct working parts in it. For its working condition is complicated and variable, as well as the limitations of domestic design and manufacture level, it comes to be the vulnerable parts which replaced most in practical work. Its mechanical properties’s good or bad was very meant for production efficiency and power consumption, and the economic benefit improvement, aiming at the stress and possible failure in the working process of the picks, the cutting course’s mechanical properties of knife type picks in shearer has been analysed and researched in detail in this paper.Based on the theory of previous research, according to the domestic three kinds of knife type pick’s structure size, to simplify and establish the statics finite element model of three kinds of knife type pick. Then have the statics simulated calculation for finite element model, get the mechanical characteristics of knife type pick and three kinds of knife type pick’s stress distribution law, stress and strain distribution. In static analysis, the maximum equivalent stress in the blade tip at its alloys, also in the alloy blades and blade and shank chamfer weld stress as well. Through the analysis of the results identified the three kinds of type knife pick respective scope of application. And its structure was appropriate improvements. Then based on the results of static analysis, the three kinds of knife of type knife key points greater the stress fatigue life line. In the fatigue life analysis, shank chamfer is its most vulnerable places fatigue failure, followed by the body of the tooth blade alloy welding.This paper provides a certain theoretical basis for the design amd improvement of the knife type picks.
