Gyratory crusher is a kind of roughly-crushing equipments. It is mainly used fora variety of hardness minerals in mineral industry and other industrial sectors. Its highproduction capacity, which is about3to4times higher than Jaw crusher, makes it atypical device of crushing hard materials in mining and other industrial sectors. Thecavity of the crushing chamber has a significant influence on the crushingperformance of gyratory crusher, but the study is only concerned with its optimizationwith the use of mathematical analysis methods. With the development of theory andtechnology, the discrete element method provides a new research method for thechamber optimization of gyratory crusher.In this paper, the crushing performance of gyratory crusher is the research object.Crushing simulation analysis is carried out by establishing discrete element model ofgyratory crusher, targeting at the total weight of the broken ore within a certain time,and meanwhile some key parameters influencing crushing performance of gyratorycrushers such as the structure parameters of crushing chamber, moving cone speed,eccentricity, etc. are sampled with Latin hypercube Sampling. Then discrete elementsimulations of the sampling points are carried out and its results are used to constructapproximation model through radial basis function. In the end, optimization anddesign are executed by genetic algorithms method. The main contents of this paperinclude:1) The feasibility study on discrete element method in the field of materialcrushing. The discrete element method has been studied in the aspect of materialcrushing and the method are discussed from the aspects of theory, which can beapplied to material crushing, and then used to analyze the physical phenomenon ofcomplex mechanical system.2) Broken simulation analysis of discrete element. A parametric CAD model ofgyratory crusher has been established by using a top-down parametric modelingapproach based on framework model, which laid the foundation for the later modelparameter adjustment. Crushing process gyratory crusher has been simulated andanalyzed by using discrete element simulation software, and also crushing effect isassessed.3) Chamber optimization analysis. The optimization and design of gyratory crusher cavity has been carried out by using radial basis approximation model andgenetic algorithm technology based on the theory and results of discrete elementsimulation.Using the theory of discrete element to optimize and design the widely usedgyratory crusher, more fits the actual engineering applications, and it providesreferences for the future use of discrete element in engineering applications and forthe optimization and design of the chamber of gyratory crusher.
