This article was mainly based on present national standards GB/T5009.11-2003"Determination of total arsenic and abio-arsenic in foods", experiments were carried outon sample preparation and examination methods. Samples were pretreated with dry processcineration, aqueous disperation and microwave to release total arsenic. Microwave-assistedextraction, ultrasound extraction, water bath extraction, organic solvent extraction andactivated carbon adsorption were carried on the inorganic arsenic processing. Severalfoods(rice, cooking oil, porphyra capensi, orange juice drink, sea fish canned food, saucechicken leg, feed,et al) were detected and compared with the methods that GB used, including hydride atom fluorescence luminosity method, silver salt method, arsenic spotmethod and borohydride return to original state color method. Simultaneously the detectionmethods which produced in the practice were adopted, including Malachite greenspectrophotometric method, graphite oven atom absorption spectrographic methods,ICP-AES method and so on.The results showed that the hydride atom fluorescence luminosity method picked outlimit of total arsenic of0.01mg/kg, limit of inorganic arsenic was0.04mg/kg, RSD was0.143%~2.236%; The silver salt method picked out limit of total arsenic of0.2mg/kg, limitof inorganic arsenic was0.4mg/kg, RSD is2.106%~5.484%; limit of total arsenic pickedout by arsenic spot method was0.25mg/kg, limit of inorganic arsenic was0.50mg/kg; Theborohydride return to original state color method picked out limit of total arsenic of0.05mg/kg, limit of inorganic arsenic was0.10mg/kg, RSD was1.067%~6.379%; Themalachite green spectrophotometric method picked out limit of total arsenic of0.2mg/kg,limit of inorganic arsenic was0.4mg/kg, RSD was1.282%~5.010%; The graphite ovenatom absorption spectrographic methods picked out limit of total arsenic of0.005mg/kg,limit of inorganic arsenic was0.01mg/kg, RSD was0.182%~4.136%; The ICP-AESmethod picked out limit of total arsenic was0.005mg/kg, limit of inorganic arsenic was0.01mg/kg, RSD was0.228%~1.629%.The arsenic apot method is a quick but not very precise test method which can beused on rapid screening of mass samples. Spectrophotometry is a traditional detection method, suitable for all laboratories. However, this method is restricted by poor results ofanalysis, because of the using of acid, stability of equipment and unrepeatability of theoperators. AFS method, graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry and ICP-AESmethod can get accurate result due to the less interference from subjective and objectivefactors. Considering expensive equipments, these methods are only used in certainstatutory institution, could not be universal. The samples handled through microwave digestion not only assured the experimentaldata accuracy and reliability but also shortened the experiment. Microwave-assistedextraction was the first choice among methods of extracting inorganic arsenic, followed byultrasound extraction; the last was the water bath method from GB. If microwave andultrasound was not available, activated carbon can be adopted to satisfy the detection byremoving organic arsenic. As the need for further testing content of different forms ofarsenic, the organic solvent extraction may be a rapid separation method.
