Since the founding of China, Northeast China has been a core area of heavyindustry, but the extensive mode of development has caused a number of resource andecological environment problems: much environmental pollution debts,more difficultgovernance, economic development and environmental pollution abnormal salientcontradiction. In this paper, the Northeast34prefecture-level cities as the basicresearch units, the use of gray relational analysis method to analyze spatial andtemporal domain from the city, provincial two scales, in order to provide a usefulreference on the road to sustainable development in the Northeast.Research paper is divided into four parts:(1) the concept definition andtheoretical basis of the Northeast economic development and ecological environmentcoupled. Including: concept of coupling and system coupling theory, ecologicaleconomics, gray correlation theory, environmental Kuznets curve theory, systemtheory and the theory of sustainable development.(2) the status analysis of theNortheast region’s economic development and ecological.(3) an analysis of the mainfactors of economic development and ecological environment in Northeast coupling.Through the establishment of the index system in line with the economic environmentin the Northeast, with the support of gray relational technology, analysis the mainfactors of economic development and ecological environment and its couplingmechanism.(4) spatial and temporal changes analysis in the Northeast region’seconomic development and ecological environment coupling. The first part do thestatic analysis and dynamic comparative analysis of the northeastern region of spacedistribution and the degree of coupling coupling type, and then study thecharacteristics and trends in the timing of development. The results showed that:(1) Mechanisms for economic development and ecological environmentcoupled system elements is complex, and northeast China’s economic development isclosely coupled with the ecological environment."three wastes" emissions andlimiting factors of soil and water resources is a major constraint factor in theeconomic development of the Northeast, while the overall level of the economy andpeople’s living standards reflect the economic development of the ecologicalenvironment of coercion effect.(2) According to the coupling and regional economic development degree, the34prefecture-level city in Northeast region is roughly divided into coordination, running, antagonistic, low coupling four types. Overall, the main types of economicdevelopment and ecological environment in Northeast coupling are the antagonist andlow coupling, and compared with2003, the degree of coupling has a upward trend inthe Northeast region as a whole in2011. Economic development and ecologicalenvironment of space coupling degree of the central and northeastern coastal regionshowing the distribution of high and low overall characteristics of the northern region,the average degree of coupling prefecture-level city in Liaoning Province, Jilin andHeilongjiang provinces to higher and higher degree of coupling The city alsosignificantly more than the other two provinces.(3) Northeast economic development and ecological environment couplingdegree timing variation stage and showed some volatility, which is closely related tothe change and development of regional policy, the economy, the environment. Andcoupled with a rise in the degree of fluctuation trends over the next five years.
