This study takes the JinShandian iron flotation sulfur concentration as the subject tocarry laboratory test to find the right flocculant which can improve the efdect of sulfurconcentrate settlement, aimimg at solving the existing problem that the loss of theconcentration in the thickener overflow is too high.The flocculation and sedimentationtests were done using the chosen10kinds of organic polymer flocculants and thesettlement curves under different conditions were obtained through the observation of thechanges of the sedimentation interface. Through the methods of Talmage-Fitch andOltmann basing on the settlement curve, the specific concentration area was figured outto evaluate the effect of the flocculants.Allowing for the influence of the flocculants onthe filtration process, the vacuum filtration tests were also done and the cake mass specificresistance and the filtration cake moisture content were used to.In order to study themechanism of flocculation, the zeta potential of the sulfur concentrate were tested.The results of settlement experiment shows that: the Aspof the sulfur concentrationslurry settlement is111.9(m2·s)/kg. Aspin the absence of flocculant and those when thedosage of the flocculants2010031110and41216is100g/t are the minimum, which are3.5(m2·s)/kg,4.1(m2·s)/kg, respectively.The results of the filtration experiments showthat: the filtration cake mass specific resistance and moisture content φ are21.10×1010m/kg and24.4%without using flocculants; the filtration cake mass specificresistance4.79×1010m/kg is the lowest when the dosage of flocculant41216is100g/tand the filtration cake moisture content is21.1%when the dosage of flocculant41216is35g/t.The test results show that: the zeta potential of cationic flocculant to eliminate sulfurconcentrate surface charge, then produce flocculation by bridging manner; other kinds offlocculants, no major changes in sulfur concentrate zeta potential and the mainmechanism is that bridging adsorption.Considering the three kinds of indexes Asp, andφ, the flocculant41216is theoptimum flocculant for the sulfur concentration. The optimum dosage is50g/t, theappropriate temperature is about25℃and under that condition the Asp, and φ are36.2(m2·s)/kg、11.1×1010m/kg、21.96%, respectively.
