Polymer/montmorillonite nanocomposites is the most representative one of theresearch field of polymer/clay nanocomposites. With mild reaction condition, simpleto operate and without organic solvent used, water phase in-situ polymerizationtechnology is easy to realize industrialization. Firstly,we prepared the compositematerials by regulating and controling the surface chemical properties of the layers ofclay and then combining them with the soap-free emulsion polymerization mechanism. Then we successfully get the composite materials by the mothod of chemicaloxidation polymerization, and used it to remove the dye. The main work and results ofour study is described as followed:(1) Using the TEA modified montmorillonite as the stabilizer and methacrylicacid as the auxiliary monomers, the PSt/MMT nanocomposite emulsion andP(St-co-BA)/MMT nanocomposite emulsion with high solid content were successfulprepared by the hydrogen bonding interaction, using the soap-free emulsionpolymerization. With the increase of the montmorillonite content, the radius of thecomposite latex particles deceases at first. However, when the montmorillonitecontent get much more bigger, the radius deceases. The results of FITR, TEM andXRD show that the polymer/montmorillonite nanocomposites have the exfoliatedstructure.(2) Using the BEA modified montmorillonite as the stabilizer, the PSt/MMTnanocomposite emulsion and PMMA/MMT nanocomposite emulsion were successfulprepared by the covalent bond interaction, using the soap-free emulsionpolymerization. With the increase of the montmorillonite content, the radius of thecomposite latex particles deceases. The results of FITR and XRD show that thePSt/MMT nanocomposite and PMMA/MMT nanocomposite have the exfoliatedstructure.(3) Using the GMA-DEA modified montmorillonite as the stabilizer and a littleSDS(less than the critical micelle concentration) as the auxiliary stabilizer, thePSt/MMT nanocomposite emulsion were successful prepared by the soap-freeemulsion polymerization. The results of FITR and XRD show that the PSt/MMTnanocomposite have an exfoliated structure. With the increase of the SDS content, therate of polymerization increases and the radius of the composite latex particlesdeceases. The result of TG show that with the increase of the montmorillonite content, the thermal stability of the nanocomposite is increased(4) The PAN/MMT nanocomposites were prepared with the DMC-MAA modifiedmontmorillonite by the in-suit chemical oxidative polymerization, and use it foradsorb the Amino Black in the water. Results show that the adsorption dynamics ofcomposite materials in line with the quasi secondary dynamics, and the adsorptionisotherm in line with the Langmuir model.
