Using carbon anode material in traditional aluminum electrolytic, which is not onlyenergy consuming, environmental pollution, but also costly and difficult to realizeautomation.Under the pressures of energy shortage and environmental protection, it isimminent to research and develop a new material replacing carbon anode material. Thedevelopment of inert anode has gained certain achievements, but it is still the optimalscientific subject over the next20years.The subject of this paper comes from the international cooperation projects of theMinistry of science and technology: Reach of New Rare Earth Cermet Inert Anode inAluminium Electrolysis (2010DFA52130).17Ni/(10NiO-NiFe2O4) cermet is preparedwith10NiO-NiFe2O4as matrix. TiO2, WO3is added to the cermet respectively insintering process. The influence of two dopants’ content on phase compositon, microstructure, relative density, conductivly, mechanical properties and high temperatureoxidation resistance of cermet are studied. The mainly conclusions and findings can be summarized as follows:1. The phase compositon of cermet is not changed after doping TiO2or WO3,and its composition is still consisting of Ni, NiO and NiFe2O4.2. All aspects of performance for17Ni/(10NiO-NiFe2O4) cermet will be improvedafter doping moderate TiO2. Firstly, TiO2can increase relative density, decrease theporosity and enhance conductive. Then, mechanical properties of cermet, such ashardness, fracture toughness and flexural strength, especially the high temperatureoxidation resistance, are improved to different degree after doping fit TiO2. Inconclusion, it shows that The material has a series of advantages, including high density, low osteoporosis, less holes, good electrical conductivity, well comprehensive mechanicalproperties and excellent high temperature oxidation resistance when the doping content ofTiO2is1%in17Ni/(10NiO-NiFe2O4) cermet.3. All aspects of performance of17Ni/(10NiO-NiFe2O4) cermet will be improvedwith different scales after doping moderate WO3. Concrete embodiment of it lies inthe following: At frist palce, moderate WO3can enhance sintering performance, forexample, it increases the density and decresces porosity obviously. Meanwhile, bothof hardness, fracture toughness and high temperature oxidation resistance areincreased. Flexural strength is more than double that of undoped cermet. Finally, thehigh temperature oxidation resistance of mermet is also strengthened visibly. In brief, the optimal content of WO3in17Ni/(10NiO-NiFe2O4) cermet is from2%to4%. At this time, all kinds of properties of cermet are superior to those of others.
