Selenium nanoparticles-modifier systems were used as the template to inducecalcium oxalate crystals (CaC2O4) growth was an important method to mimic thebiological interfaces. The interactions between CaC2O4and interface of seleniumnanoparticles colloidal (nanoSe0) could make the CaC2O4crystals have specialstructure and assembled style. In this study, we found that nanoSe0and severalmodifiers have synergistic effect on CaC2O4crystals growth. Some nanoSe0-modifiersystems could inhibit the calcium oxalate monohydrate (COM) crystals growtheffectively and induce the formation of calcium oxalate dihydrate (COD) and calciumoxalate trihydrate (COT) crystals.NanoSe0-bovine serum albumin (nanoSe0-BSA) complex induced the formationof COT or COD crystals with special morphologies and surface cracks. InnanoSe0-BSA complex system, the interaction of nanoSe0with BSA throughcoordination made the BSA molecules link each other and the increase of BSAaggregation, so BSA could reach the certain critical concentration at relative lowconcentration. Therefor, the nanoSe0-BSA could induce the formation of specialcrystals in relatively low BSA concentrations. In addition, nanoSe0could coordinatewith C2O42-as C-O-Se and O-Se-O valencies and induce thecomplexation-dissociation balance between nanoSe0and CaC2O4crystals. So, thespecial COT or COD crystals obtained in the presence of nanoSe0-BSA have morecracks on surfaces than that obtained in the presence of BSA.NanoSe0-glutamic acid (nanoSe0-Glu) also could induce the formation of typicalCOD crystals, rectangular COT crystals and round edge COM crystals in certainconcentration, and favored the formation of oval transitional crystals between COTand COM at high concentration. NanoSe0-glutathione (nanoSe0-GSH) could inhibitthe crystals nucleation and had no obvious influence on the phase of CaC2O4crystals.NanoSe0-gallic acid (nanoSe0-GA) could induce the formation of typicalbipyramidal shape COD crystals. With increasing the concentrations of nanoSe0-GA,the sizes of the COD crystals decreased in a dose-dependent way and the spherical crystals. Increasing the molar ratio of nanoSe0-GA could lead to the formation ofsquare COD and rectangular COT crystals. With the [Ca2+]/[C2O42-] ratio changed,nanoSe0-GA could induce the formation of disc COM crystals or the COM crystalswith sharp edge and round side. In addition, nanoSe0-pyrogallic acid (nanoSe0-PA)could also induce the formation of COD and spherical crystals, but nanoSe0-propylgallate (nanoSe0-PG) promoted the crystals growth and showed no obvious influenceon crystal phase.
