2Cr13martensite stainless steel is one of the most widely used materials in themechanical industry due to its excellent comprehensive mechanical properties. Studieson the friction and wear behavior of the2Cr13martensite stainless steel under thevariable loading condition are more pratical than those under constant loading conditions, and meaningful for the industry production. In this paper, home-made ball-on-disktribometer with variable loading was used to test the friction and wear behavior of thenitride2Cr13stainless steel under constant and variable loading conditions. The results show that a nitrided layer genetated on the surface of the nitrided2Cr13stainless steel, which consists of compound layer layer and diffusion layer. Themicrohardness shows a certain grade from the surface to the middle of the material. XRDresults show that the nitrided layer is mainly composed of-Fe3N, relative smallamount of ’ Fe4Nand a little CrN.Under the constant loading condition, the friction force increases with the loadincreases in spite of different velocities. The same trend is found for the stable frictioncoefficient. Under the variable loading condition, the friction force has a shape ofrectangle as same as the loading condition. With the peak value of the variable loadincreases, the friction force and stable friction coefficient increases.Under200rpm velocity and constant loading condition, the adhesive wear andplastic deformation becomes more serious with the load increases, which is same asadbrasive wear. However, under sawtooth wave, the wear mechanism is severe adbrasivewear under the peak values are50N and75N conditions, and the75N condition wasseverer because of its delimitation wear. Under the100N peak value condition, thenitrided disk presents obvious adhesive wear and serious plastic flow. Under the samevelocity and variable loading condition, the adhesive wear and flaky plastic deformationis serious while adbrasive wear is abnormal compared with that under the constantloading condition. The adbrasive wear is the most serious and the various shape particlesare most under the75N peak value. Erosive wear is discovered under the variable loading condition as well.
