The process of assembly sequence planning is an important part of designing, the resultof which is directly related to product quality, performance, longevity and maintainability.The traditional2D process design and3D product design methods used now cannot match,thus hindering the development of new products. Therefore, the way to explore assemblyprocess planning has important implications for the development of new products.Based on3D design software-CATIA, virtual manufacturing software-DELMIA,assembly sequence planning is researched and the process of assembly is simulated. Theassembly process planning and assembly simulation are completed in the design phase.With the requirements of assembly sequence planning method that is used in this paperand the study of the development of assembly information modeling, the use of hierarchicalmodel and the relational model to build product assembly information model is proposed. Forthe assembly relational model, the definitions of contact-connection matrix, the matrixinterference, the supporting matrix are giving, and the way to extract the matrix is studied.In this paper, a method to automatically generate assembly sequence using the matrixextracted from the3D model is presented considering that components can be installed if theycan be detached. The key technologies for the process of automatic generation of assemblysequences, including collision detection, choosing the basing part, are presented briefly.On the basis of the theoretical studying of assembly information modeling, the assemblysequence planning software is developed using CAITA automation technology which canautomatically extract assembling information from3D mode in CATIA, and use thisinformation to generate primary product assembly path in CATIA.After generating the assembly sequence of products, the assembly process is simulated toverify the feasibility of the assembly sequence. Meanwhile, Ergonomic issues andaccessibility of assembly are studied based on DELMIA in order to achieve the purpose ofpractical engineering.By automatically obtaining the product assembly sequence of a three-dimensional modeland simulating the assembly process in the product design stage, unreasonable designs ofproduct are reduced and the efficiency of designing product is improved and redesign andwaste are reduced.
