Due to the continuous increase in consumption of oil and gas and to stop theimbalance in the world created by some countries rich in petroleum resources who aredictating oil and gas prices on their will it has now become necessary to turn tounconventional resources.Shale gas is one of the most important unconventional resources which have to beexploited. US have the most mature technologies needed in exploitation of shale gas whichthe world needs to learn from their experience. Barnett shale is considered the mother ofshale gas plays. This paper emphasizes on the simulation of shale gas by using Barnett shale as ourmodel. All shale gas plays have unique characteristics so in the first part the properties ofBarnett shale are described. Long horizontal wells, hydraulic fracturing and injection ofcarbon dioxide are the main techniques used in the production of shale gas. This simulation study shows the effect on optimization of shale gas by hydraulic fracturingand injection of carbon dioxide. The study is then extended to find the suitable well spacingand well pattern of this reservoir.
