Structural Aesthetics In Wooden Furniture Design

Furniture is frequently used in our daily life, which means it is closely attached topeople’s life. Besides the function, furniture should meet people’s aesthetic needs at thesame time, for the reason that furniture is a symbol of taste and lifestyles. With thedevelopment of productivity and the improvement of living standard, aesthetic needsbecome more and more important.The structure to one piece of wooden furniture is the skeletons to people. Thestructure of wooden furniture contains overall structure, component structure and joints.The overall structure determines the shape of one piece of wooden furniture, andfurniture can be considered as the whole wooden structure.The structure design of wooden furniture is to base on the theory of elements ofmodeling, such as point, line and plane, to build up a piece of furniture, both for itsbasic function and the shape outside. The aesthetic experience brought by structuredesign is structural aesthetics in wooden furniture. Structural aesthetics is the base ofwooden furniture’s aesthetic value; it is also the beauty of details in wooden furniture.Overall, wooden structure has a great impact on the design of one piece of woodenfurniture. So deep research on the structure aesthetics, structure design of woodenfurniture, and the way to make wooden structure more reasonable and to improveaesthetic value is meaningful.Firstly, by collecting and analyzing basic wooden structure, to sort up the basicstructure design of wooden furniture，especially focus on the basic structure of chairsand tables. Secondly, based on the theories of design aesthetics and structure design,with large amounts of case studies to analyze and summarize the structural aesthetics ofwooden furniture. At last, put forward the way to improve the aesthetic value of woodenstructure, aiming at to provide basic theories for wooden furniture designers.
