Expandable polystyrene is commonly used for packing and insulation materials because of versatility, dimensional stability,cleanliness and low cost. But only18.1the ordinary polystyrene sheets oxygen index (LOI), flammability, and so the development of a new, efficient flame retardant, low-cost expandable polystyrene composite sheet is particularly important.In this paper, a suspension polymerization polystyrene beads several influencing factors, and the main effects of flame retardant expandable grapHite (Expandable GrapHite, EG) and decabromodipHenyl ether/antimony trioxide synergistic flame retardanteffect, and flame retardants content of expanded polystyrene flame retardant properties of the composite insulation panels, thermal insulation properties and mechanical strength were investigated. In this paper, by suspension polymerization polystyrene beads, through the pre-expansion, maturation, and expandable polystyrene insulation sheet molding process preparation, study the amount of dispersant on the particle size and size distribution of polystyrene beads the impact of the law, and the polymerization temperature, stirring speed and water-oil ratio of several factors on the suspension polymerization, the results show that:the amount of dispersant for about0.75%of the styrene monomer (St), water/St2(both mass ratio), stirring speed350r/min, the polymerization temperature of90±1℃, the PS bead diameter medium size obtained,0.6-1.4mm beads content distribution is concentrated up to95.68%; using cladding method flame retardant decabromodipHenyl ether/expandable grapHite coated evenly EPS bead surface, producing a flame retardant can be made of polystyrene composite insulation sheet of flame retardant EPS material horizontal burning test, compressive strength test thermal conductivity testing and thermal gravimetric analysis and by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) the observed the carbon residue morpHologies horizontal flame test, the results show that: add decabromodipHenyl ether/antimony trioxide/polystyrene expandable grapHite composite sheet have excellent flame retardant properties (away from the self-extinguishing time of only1.3s), due to the porous structure of expanded grapHite to produce valid bondage of brominated flame retardants decomposition of non-combustible gas, significantly improved the flame retardant efficiency due at the same time, the polystyrene composite sheet has the better insulation properties and mechanical strength. Considering the composite flame retardants added mechanical strength and process performance, flame retardants added to decabromodipHenyl ether/antimony trioxide13%(mass percentage), expandable grapHite11%is appropriate.
