Explosive welding is a special welding, it’s excellent at engineering performance,lower cost and won the recognition and trust in the industrial society. Stainless steel/carbon steel explosive composite panels for its unified combine with corrosionresistance on the cover plate and high strength on the basic level, it has applicationcharacteristics under service conditions with the surface corrosion and resistant heat.In this paper, using the methods of optical microscopy, scanning electronmicroscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopymicro, hardness testerand impact tester to conducted a study of304stainless steel and carbon steel Q245Rexplosive clad plate with its welded joints, which the waveform morphology, plasticdeformation, whirlpool organizations, melt layer,"island" organization, holes inclusions,shrinkage, element diffusion and phase in the interfacial bonding area, and alsoanalyzed and discussed between the change of hardness distribution and toughnesswhich in the binding interface’s microstructure.The results show that composite plate binding region of a small wavy combineunder this process, the averages of the wavelength and wave height were1299μm and412μm. Carbon steel side of the grain from the interface to the substrate in order to finegrain area, fiber area, distorting the original grain area and the original grain area. Thesize of the fine grain area was about5~12μm and the average grain size is9.4level;the size of the fiber area was about12~20μm and the average grain size is8.2level;the size of the distorting the original grain area was about30μm and the average grainsize is7.3level; the size of the original grain area was about35μm and the averagegrain size is6.4level. The presence of composite panels combine has the defects ofcasting whirlpool organization, melt layer,"island","peninsula", holes with inclusion,shrinkage, dislocation network, twinning network and so on, and also accompanied byCr and Ni element diffusion from overlay to basic level and the transformations fromaustenitic to martensitic. The hardness of the binding region was to reduce on the both side of the combine interface center. The highest hardness is531.5HV, which is on theside of overlay and the position is in the trough of the bonding interface. The toughnessof the substrate is130J and the toughness was down to70J at the substrate whichcontaining binding region, but the impact specimens was not completely broken, whichthe V-shaped mouth was opened at the basic level and containing the overlay, the plasticdeformation has a decrease in toughness after blast bombardment.
