Power plant can’t operate according to its original coal type due to outstripped supply of coal in China. Sulfur content of coal differs greatly and often exceeds desired number. Meanwhile, the Department of the Environment makes great claims upon flue gas of the power plant. In these circumstances, it is necessary to upgrade desulfurization equipments.Now a significant number of power plants have upgraded desulfurization equipments and the desulfurization efficiency has improved obviously. Zhangqiu power plant adopts two series towers to upgrade desulfurization equipments.The paper aims to upgrade335MW generator of ZhangQiu power plant and discusses the whole process from design plan to operation of the equipment after upgrading. The solution of the main problem during upgrade process is introduced in the paper. The running effect of4#generator after upgraded is investigated. Running mode and combination of cycle slurry pumps are optimized in different working condition. Experimental results in pre-designed working condition show concentration of SO2in smoke is6474mg/m3and the concentration of SO2in outlet of the first tower and second tower is785mg/m3and31mg/m3respectively. It can be conclude that the desulphurizing efficiency of the first tower, the second tower and total are87.87%,96.05%and99.52%respectively. Experimental results in20%higher than pre-designed working condition show concentration of SO2in smoke is7430mg/m3and the concentration of SO2in outlet of the first tower and second tower is1494mg/m3and45mg/m3respectively. It can be conclude that the desulphurizing efficiency of the first tower, the second tower and total are79.89%,96.98%and99.39%respectively.All the results show that desulphurizing efficiency of the second tower is higher than the first tower. The work proposed in the paper can provided reference to upgrade desulfurization equipments.
