In this paper, walnut shell from Aksu, southern Xinjiang was taken as raw material, phosphoricacid as activator. using the method of orthogonal experimental design, the influence of activationtemperature, activation time, liquid-solid ratio, and H3PO4to activated carbon preparation of the walnutshell and apricot shell were studied with methylene blue adsorption value and iodine adsorption value asthe main evaluation indicators. The optimal process conditions for preparation of walnut shell and apricotshell activated carbon were obtained. And the characteristics of the walnut shell activated carbon andapricot shell activated carbon were compared, mainly about differences of the porous structure anddistribution, methylene blue, and iodine adsorption capacity. In addition, in this paper, under static condition, the effects of pH value, absorbent dosage, adsorption time and temperature on phenol adsorption were investigated. The optimal process conditionswere to be acquired so as to improve the efficiency of adsorption of activated carbon in treating organicphenolic pollutants. At the same time, the Pseudo first-order equation, pseudo second-order equation andintra-particle diffusion equation were adopted respectively to examine the kinetic data of adsorption onphenol. Finally, the walnut shell Activated carbons were modified by different acids(nitric acid, sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid), acid concentration, modification time and temperature. The adsorption of Cr(Ⅵ) onoriginal and modified activated carbons were investigated by orthogonal experiment.
