Chinese ancient lock has undergone thousands of years of development, evolution and inheritance. It combined with the every single national’s culture, formed its own unique artistic language, has a profound social foundation and distinctive folk characteristics and contains the elegance of classical aesthetic taste. It is a precious wealth of excellent traditional culture heritage of Chinese craft art history. The complexity of ancient lock manufacturing involves smelting foundry, machinery manufacturing, careful design, cold forging, carving and painting, physical, dynamics and psychological disciplines, which reflects the excellence of ideas and concepts of design from our ancestors is not inferior to modern. Lock also reflects ancient dynasties of social economy, politic, culture, production, lifestyle, reports the historical development path of crafts and hardware technology. Nowadays, with highly developed science and technology, China is the largest producer of locks, however not the greatest producer of locks. Because of the domestic lock industry product lack of cultural awareness and the competitiveness of the brand, leading the domestic market occupied by foreign hardware brand locks. Author read a lot of ancient and modern materials, personally visit to Beijing, Jiangsu’s Museum and collected details about the kind of ancient Chinese locks and written material, utilized historical literature, archaeological survey, and combined with the industrial design methodology, by several months of writing, completed this ancient Chinese locks depth inductive analysis. In this paper, a detailed explanation of the history of ancient Chinese locks, mechanical institutions and technology, a unique artistic style, using design semantics and design of Cybernetics theory focuses on the inherent Chinese ancient cultural meaning in the lock. Aiming at current design concept of the "Chinese characteristics, international recognition" and importance of intangible cultural heritage, intended to appealing people to fully recognize the importance of Chinese traditional crafts. By mining the cultural origin, contains and art technology of the ancient lock, combing the north and south China nations’culture, to gain valuable inspirations from ancient locks for developing modern lock industry.
