Although the tapered punching-hole strainer, as a filtering and rectificationcomponent, has been widely applied to various types of rotating machines, especiallyfor gas compressors, relevant theoretical studies are still insufficient. In order to makethe filtering and rectification mechanism more comprehensible, this paper studies theflow characteristics and force conditions of punching-hole strainers using thenumerical method and optimizes strainer designs for porosity and thickness.This paper adopts the standard k-e two-equation turbulence model andthree-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation technique, where SIMPLE algorithm istaken as the numerical solution method and commercial software ANSYSWorkbench14.0as the computing platform. In this process, fluid analysis moduleFluent is mainly used to conduct numerical simulation on the flow field of strainerpipelines with elbow and to optimize the structure of strainer taper section. Bychanging the aperture and porosity, the flow characteristics under six porosities areanalyzed from the perspective of pipe pressure loss, flow field uniformity at pipeoutlet, etc.; it is found that the flow field uniformity at strainer pipe outlet issignificantly improved after optimization of the taper section and that the larger theporosity, the smaller the resistance loss. However, the flow field uniformity at strainerpipe outlet increases first and then decreases as the porosity changes, with the optimaleffect found at an aperture of12mm and a porosity of58.1%.Secondly, according to the comparison in four aspects, namely, fluid-solidcoupling method-structural static mechanics analysis and the criteria of the thirdstrength theory and the fourth strength theory, and with taking the engineeringpractice as ultimate criteria, the results shows that when conducting stress analysis ofpunching-hole strainers, fluid-solid coupling method should be adopted to calculate the stress, which should be then proofread using the evaluation criteria of the fourthstrength theory.
