Advances in science and technology promotes the wide application of progressingcavity pumping system the sand-content heavy oil wells, and has good prospects fordevelopment. The progressing cavity pump has the characteristics of easy operation, lessinvestment, simple equipment configuration, energy conservation and good adaptability etc.,which has good development space in the future. As one of the key parts of progressingcavity pump, the rubber stator works in the environment of high temperature, which severelylimits the application of the whole pump. Temperature is a very important factor todetermine the useful spanlife of rubber stator. The higher temperature will cause the changeof physical and chemical property of stator rubber, accelerating the aging and wear processand thus resulting in the shortening of service life. Therefore, research of the effect oftemperature on properties of stator rubber is crucial to the development of progressing cavitypump. With the actual working environment considered, different acrylonitrile contents ofNBR were tested to check the variation of volume, tensile strength and elongation afterswelling in crude oil. The temperature effect on the mechanical properties of the statorrubber is studied. The experiment for three kinds of nitrile rubber before and after swellingare performed, on MPV-600ring-on-block tester in crude medium under differenttemperature, to study the effect of temperature on friction and wear of rubber. The test results and analysis of the worn and swelled rubber surface have shown that thetemperature change has a great influence on the stator rubber performance. The rise oftemperature will urge the motion of small molecular substances in crude oil which will enterinto the rubber causing the break or crosslink of molecular chain and resulting indeterioration of mechanical properties. At the same time, the increase of temperature willreduce the wear resistance ability and change the wear mechanism of stator rubber. Theinfluence of temperature on stator rubber in crude oil is mainly reflected in swelling, chemical corrosion and mechanical wear, and also acrylonitrile content in the rubber has agreat associating influence.
