For concentrating magnetic concentrate and pyrite, a new magnetic hydrocyclonewhich is underflow style has been designed.Besides, ANSYS software has beenintroduced to calculate the magnetic properties of this magnetic system. The resultshows that the magnetic force produced by this system is parallel to axis of hydrocyclone in the vertical direction,and pointing to the wall of cyclone in horizontaldirection. Two main functions of this system has been discussed in this paper. Firstly itcan pull magnetite into concentrate in a large magnetic field.Secondly, it can increaseslurry density of bottom of cyclone and form a high density layer while the field is notlarge.By the mean time, it can also increase density in the transitional layer ofhydrocyclone.Finally, the ore has been separated.The concentrating experiments of magnetite concentrate shows that the grade ofmagnetite can climb from66.0%to67.5%after separating of magnetic hydro cyclonewhich is underflow style. Finally the grade of magnetite has increased1.5percentwhich is similar to magnetic separation column. The result shows that this magnetichydro cyclone is a effective way to introduce high grade magnetite.In this part ofexperiments, it also shows that the magnetic system should be located in the bottom ofthe cone for mineral separation.Then we discussed another function of this magnetic system.Firstly, theexperiments of concentrating pyrite by normal hydro cyclone has been finished, itshows that the grade of sulphur can reach35.50%while the origin grade of sulphur is29.27%. Normal hydro cyclone can be used to separate pyrite, but is not goodenough.So experiments of concentrating pyrite by dense medium cyclone has beendiscussed. The results shows that the concentrate grade of sulphur is39.30%.And theoptimum separation conditions are as follows:magnetic mineral powder granularity for37μm accounted for83.4%, underflow diameter is12mm, pressure is0.1MPa.Finally, experiments of magnetic field has been discussed. The experiment get abest result when the current is0.3A. At this condition, the grade of sulphur is42.4%.Ifthe current increase after0.3A, the recovery of sulphur increase but the grade decrease.
