Gear honing is a precision processing method, which uses the relative slipand pressure on tooth surface between honing wheel and workpiece to cut andbelongs to a cross shaft transmission. The pitch surface of worm honing wheelcontains cylindrical and ring. The number of teeth that engages in meshingwith cylindrical worm is less and sometimes the axial feed is still needed to cutall profile of gear, which affects the efficiency of cutting processingaccordingly; Hourglass worm has more teeth of engaging in meshing whichreach about one tenth of the teeth of workpiece, meanwhile its relative slidingvelocity is high. Thus it plays significant role in improving the efficiency andhas strong ability of the tooth profile correction. Therefore, the research ofcutting performance of hourglass worm gear honing is of great significance.In this paper, based on UG6.0and MATLAB7.0software to carry on thesimulation analysis, the main work is as follows:1. The information of hard tooth face processing was consulted carefully,each working procedure in the process of gear machining was discussed, and the development situation and various types of TI hourglass worm gear honingwas learned.2. Tooth face equation was derived by using the rounded at the top of therack cutter to envelope a helical gear. The parameterized modeling wascompleted in UG6.0program, and then the feasibility of parametric modelingwas verified by changing the parameter value.3. The basic equation of TI hourglass worm gear honing was deduced andmy own insights was added, especially the deal of the slip vector angularvelocity. The solving steps of the instantaneous contact line and the toothmeshing limit line on the surface was given.4. The parameters how to influence tooth surface was discussed. Thedistribution characteristics of instantaneous contact line and meshing limit lineof workpiece gear was obtained by using MATLAB software programmingunder standard center distance while cutting smaller spiral Angle and largerspiral Angle.5. Due to the tooth surface of TI worm is complicated particularly, aentity modeling method of creating point, then line, then plane, and body atlast that created from point to line, then from line to plane, and then fromsurface to body was put forward, the software MATLAB, Grip and UG werefully combined.6. Modified TI hourglass worm gear honing is proposed to improve thedistribution characteristic of the instantaneous contact line and meshing boundary line under the standard center distance and the cause that meshingboundary line cannot be enveloped by analyses instantaneous contact line wasanalyzed.
