Beitang Drainage River has been the main municipal sewage reservoir on the north of Haihe River in Tianjin in the past few decades,which directly related to industry、agriculture and people’s living on the northern region of Tianjin. For the past few years, due to lack of management, The ecological environment of Beitang Drainage River has been seriously damaged. For this situation of Beitang Drainage River, we analyzed pollution actuality、distribution and diffusion rules of major pollutants by field survey.Besides,we studied the microbial changes by molecular biological methods and gave some advice about how to improve water quality.By surveying about 151 companys along the river, we found they are mainly situated at six industrial parks and divided into 12 types of industries.Moreover, ferrous metal smelting and rolling processing industry, chemical materials and products manufacturing, instrumentation and office machinery manufacturing and food, beverage manufacturing industry are the main types of industries,accounting for 68.9%. There are three types of sewage outfall along the Beitang Drainage River.Monitoring different sections along the river shows that the river is severely polluted. The total amount of sewage largely exceed the capacity of Beitang Drainage River. This paper monitored water quality variation along the river, the results show that sewage outlets are the main factors leading to river pollution. The sewage outfall which contains the industrial pollutant is difficult to degradate, which has greatly impact on water quality. The seasonal changes of water quality shows the concentration of TN、NH4+-N are higer in winter than summer, but the concentration of COD is higher in summer than winter, which could mainly attributed to higher summer water consumption.Simulating adsorping-releasing pollutants of polluted sediment in situ show sediment is still good for adsorping P, heavy metals, but no obvious effect on N elements. In addition, with the river water quality improvement, the existing polluted sediment have the potential to become a secondary source of pollution.Microbial diversity in the summer is more abundant than winte. Because of industrial wastewater containing high concentrations of heavy metal,the microbial species are greatly changed.According to surveys and studies of the pollution of the river,there are much work need to do,namely,improving both the management system and engineering measures in order to change the current situation.
