Map cartography generalization is always a most challengeable and creatable domain for people to research, as well as an important application domain of geographic information. Facing the application, the paper talks about a representation way of geographic information for the purpose to obtain the real way to express it, and to build a credible relationship among the real world, the conceptive world, the digital world, and the cognitive world, which affords information semantic needs for cartography generalization, and conceptive and technic reference for the research on the needs of expressing geographic information in the information-based mapping and surveying system. The research of the paper is as the following.1. Research on the theory and technical foundation of the geo-information expression facing cartographic generalization. Study and analyze the theories of the expression of the geography world and geography knowledge, and talk about relevant theory of the Geo-ontology.2. Research on the expression of road information based on attribute extending, discuss the selection rules of the road generalization and the need of the selection rules for road data, analyze the characteristic of traditional road data and find out the income of road's classification, discipline roads'extending properties to extend the relevant property information, and put forward a data construction model for cartography generalization.3. Build a model to estimate roads'importance. By analyzing the rule of generalization, the paper sets the importance factors, and calculates them by importance, finally gets the model.4. Discuss the expression way of road information based on ontology, research on the ontology disciplines of geo-information concept, and characteristic and non- characteristic properties, and construct the road ontology.
