Thanks to the generation of the Digital Earth technology system, people can deal with various aspects of the issues by this digital mean and it becomes the inevitable trend in all fields. The trend has affected and changed the traditional mining industry. A three-dimensional (3D) visualization of mines is the beginning of building the digital mines. It has great significance to improve the management level in the mine production, and speed the construction of the mining information and to publicize the corporation culture.This paper first outlines the GIS development process of the 3D visualization, then analyzes the research and the development trend in the mining 3D visualization modeling technology at home and abroad. At last, the thesis combines the source of this thesis-the practical requirement of the Dahongshan 3D Copper Mine to clarify the research objects of mine's 3D visualization and the research significance. The thesis chooses the Skyline software as the platform to construct the 3D scene of Dahongshan Copper and creates the 3D models of mine's surface and underground. Finally through the way of integrate the models in 3D terrain scenes to form a unified description and expression of the entire mine.The major research of this thesis as follows:1. Research the basic data types which create the 3D terrain scenes of mine, integration of mine DEM, remote sensing image data are used to establish the mine 3D terrain databases. Classify the mine surface features according to their geometric structures, studied surface features in modeling and mass modeling methods separately. Including the office area, production area and such as the buildings, roads, vegetation and public accommodations in the living area and so on, the 3D models are displayed in the 3D scene.2. For the study of the underground mining 3D modeling and visualization, this thesis mainly focuses on the laneway and the underground facilities. First of all, thesis arranges the data which accumulated for many years and establishes the mine underground tunnel linear network, using the tunnel linear network as source data to build mine tunnel volume models. Secondly, using the methods of laneway centerline offset and combines the location of pipeline to generate pipeline centerline which as the basis to establish pipeline models in 3DS Max, then establishes the model of various types of electrical machines according to the actual situation in the underground mines.3. In order to reflect the real environment of mine, models built on the ground then use photographs produced in the actual place to make the texture mapping. This thesis detailed analysis all kinds of types of mapping methods, through research and treatment shooting texture optimization principles to achieve enhanced the performance and speed up the rate of texture mapping purposes. Using the Skyline and ArcGIS software to create a Shapefile file of modeling centre point to achieve bulk loading and accurate positioning of models in 3D scene, the thesis also study the optimization principles of models in order to speed up the 3D scene operating efficiency.4. After the final 3D geographical models are established, users can free roam, fly, view and edit 3D objects, and carry out routine spatial analysis of 3D. According to the research of the Geodatabase, establish the network of mine transport system which based on the Geodatabase. The results of network analysis can be output in Skyline 3D scene to assist the various needs of mine safety in the production.
