It has been made considerable progresses in Electrical Tomography (ET) since last two decades. Due to the advantages of being non-radiant, non-intrusive, rapid response and portability, ET has great future prospects for application in the field of both clinical monitoring and industrial measurement. In this thesis, improvements have been accomplished mainly on image reconstruction algorithms and design of visualization software for ET system. The main work and results are as follows.1. Quantification approach of ERT systemOne of the great restricts in promotion of ET application is quantification deficiency. In general, two main reasons are mostly concerned. One is derived from the basic characterize of ET inverse problem– insensitive for central part of measured field. The inconsistency leads to the significant variation on image gray values between center and margins. For ERT (Electrical Resistance Tomography), the other aspect is the lack of ideal mapping method from gray value to conductivity. To solve the problems existed, thorough researches have been conducted, which combine COMSOL and MATLAB simulation with extensive experiments. A correction method on construction image and differential pressure calibration are introduced. Finally, conductivity distribution with higher accuracy in gas-liquid bubble columns is obtained in this approach.2. Multithread visualization software for ET systemBased on the original visualization software, a new software system with multithread optimization is designed. The multithread-enabled system contains several individual threads to process large time consuming operations. This property releases the full power of multi-core CPUs. The system is based on DLL modularization design. It brings great flexibility and convenience in team co-operation and software updates. Advantages are also achieved in OpenGL rendering optimization. Drawing efficiency is increased significantly. At the end of the thesis, the research work is summarized briefly and further research work is suggested.
