Continental Scientific Drilling Drilling Fluid System - A New Formate Drilling Fluid System Research

In this paper firstly introduces the development of Scientific Drilling Project in the developed countries, secondly presents the opportunities and challenges faced by China in the process of proceeding CCSD(Chinese Continental Scientific Drilling Project), and the main contents of the paper focus on researching and developing a novel drilling fluids, formate brine solid-free drilling fluids, that may be suitable for CCSD.This paper is composed of two main parts: several theoretical problems and practice of the formate brine solid-free drilling fluids. The former part mainly expounds the components of the fluids, and then discusses the functions of each component, lastly generalizes the general performance of the fluids. The latter part introduces the whole experimental process from the selection of the materials to development of the optimized formulation, and succeeds making the optimized moderate viscosity and low density formulations according to the performance of the fluids that can be provided for field use, finally does the cost budget.The chapter 4 specially discusses the reclamation of formate and causticity of the formulations. The experiment result reveals that the reclamation is satisfying. The last part of the paper generalizes the above research, at the same time, proves the prospect that the formate brine solid-free drilling fluids is used in CCSD is promising.
