Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region is the biggest province of China with the area more than 1 660 000 km2, it locates in the Northwestern of China. From July to August in 2001 year, One hundred and forty-four algae specimens have been collected from 17 places in 4 area, 3 autonomy state and 1 city of Xinjiang. In these specimens, ninety-four taxa (including 63 species, 30 varieties and 1 form) of the order Aulonoraphidinales have been identified, which belong to 10 genera, 3 families. Among them, Denticula (with 2 species), Epithemia (with 6 species and 8 varieties), and Rhopalodia (with 5 species and 4 varieties) belong to the family Epithemiaceae; the family Nitzschiaceae include 3 genera, Bacillaria (with 1 species), Hantzschia (with 3 species 4 varieties and 1 form) and Nitzschia (with 28 species and 7 varieties); and the other genera Cymatopleura (with 3 species and 3 varieties), Surirella (with 13 species and 4 varieties), Stenopterobia (with 1 species) and Campylodiscus (with 1 species) belong to the family Surirellaceae. In these taxa, 14 species and 5 varieties are new record in China, 4 genera 45 species 20 varieties and 1 form are reported for the first time in Xinjiang. In this paper, the characteristic of ecological distribution of the order Aulonoraphidinales has been discussed. The result showed that the characteristic influenced by regional climate and situation is not notable, but the influence from located water body is relatively obvious, the number and quantity of those species is richer in temporary water body, seep water beside lake and marsh, yet less in brook, river, lake and other water body. On species composition, there are rich in general species, suitable basicity species and benthic species in the region, and a few species belong to plankton. Among them, fresh water and half salty water species spread extensively, like salt species are stick out.
