The object-relational database management system is the main media to manage the massive spatial data from the condition and the trend of the spatial database management system development. Object-relational data model, spatial data engine, extended SQL and spatial index are discussed in detail in this paper, and the architecture of the spatial data management system is put forward to. The system has the following characteristics: first, after evaluating and synthesizing the geometry model of the latest ArcGIS and OpenGIS, the author set forward a delicate spatial object model which is brief and more suitable to describe the entity of real world; second, the author designs a database object model with object-oriented mechanism. Based Oracle 9i the prototype system is implemented to store and manage distributed massive spatial data, to support version management among multi-users, long transaction processing and operation of massive map library. Meanwhile, a desktop platform on Linux is implemented to show the feasibility of the system. At the same time the system is used for seism, ocean, weather.
