On the basis of the relevant theory of colorimetry, a test system is designed for object color appearance measurement and its color-difference evaluation using photoelectric integrating method. In this dissertation, the scheme of this system is mainly for the application of off-line color measurement; meanwhile, as one of its extended use, an online color monitoring configuration is also discussed. The designed instrument takes photodiodes as its detectors, and the single-chip MCU named AT89C52 as the core processor and control unit, which is responsible for the all functions such as signal sampling, data storage and analysis, and result display on LCD or output via micro-printer. In addition, color quality management software of personal computer is designed for the equipment remote control and color measurement by RS-232 of serial port communication. The PC software can provide the colorimetric estimation and sample management of color products, and can be used to examine all kinds of color parameters and detailed color-difference evaluation report. This dissertation consists of seven chapters. In the first chapter, the current circumstance of color related industry in the world and their history are described. And the accurate color measurement is emphasized on for its importance in industrial applications, so that the objective and task of this study are presented. The 2nd chapter introduces the related theories and background of color measurement and evaluation. The 3rd chapter presents the overall scheme that concerns about the design of the system's configuration, colorimetric calibration and measurement method. In the 4th chapter, the hardware of this system is described with the different modules in details, and the applicable methods to implement these functions are also issued. Chapter 5 is about the software study in the single-chip micro-computer. There are many procedures associated with flow diagrams or codes, which make the system run in an easy and effective way. The 6th chapter introduces the design details of the color management software on PC, which realize the color measurement by remote control via RS-232 with the instrument. Furthermore, the project scheme for online color monitoring application of this equipment is also presented. The final 7th chapter gives the stability, repeatability, and accuracy of this system based on the actual measurements of the five color standards, i.e. white, red, green, blue, and yellow, according to the related national test rules of China, which show that this instrumentpossesses good performance and can meets the demands of industrial practices; at the end of this dissertation, the research work and related technology is summarized , and some possible improvements are prospected so that more excellent performance of this system is looked forward.
