The problem of landslide stability is involved the security of many engineering projects in various sectors such as building construction, water conservancy and irrigation, highway and railroad bridges etc. As natural geological hazard,it is affected by many uncertain factors. Sliding of land not only results in displacement and breaking up of slope masses but also destroys buildings and structures, thus endangering people's lives and their properties. Therefore the stability of landslides has long been and still is an important problem needing stady and research in the geotechnical field. In order to study the character of landslides, the cause and properties of foil slope was analysed in this paper, which was followed by a study of the background, incipient causes and characterizationof an actual engineering caseā€”the Fenghuang mountain slides. In the meanwhile, the shear strength parameters as well as the method and criteria for determination and selection of the stability factor were given. On this basis and using the "Broken Lines"method for sliding surface computation, analysis and discussion of "Push"of the slide were done.In the process, software SLOPE/W was used for computer simulation and derivation of the sliding model.Bishop's Method and Janbu's Method were used in computation with and without consideration of the existence of groundwater.Comparison and analysis of the results yielded an conclusive judgement on the stability of the slide with accompanying proposals with respect to remediation and monitoring. The study results contained in this paper are,to a certain degree,of academic signiticance and practical value and can be useful as a kind of reference for similar researchtopics.
