Identification of aquifer parameters plays a primary and pivotal role in ensuring proper management of groundwater resources. The uncertainty of the parameters may induce uncertainty calculation of water head and velocity of flow, and influence the reliability of the results of groundwater resources appraising. Therefore, finding a simple and applied method for parameter estimation is quite important for the management of groundwater resources.In this paper, three methods have been proposed for identifying the aquifer parameters, such as modified simulated annealing algorithm, genetic algorithm and genetic-simulated annealing algorithm, aiming at the complicated problem of selecting best parameters in different groundwater models. By the numerical test of example, the present problems in these methods are analyzed and discussed. The main research task of this paper is as follows:The simulated annealing algorithm is put into identifying aquifer parameters. Application of the method to the published data shows the applicable and reliable of the proposed method. Also, the influence on the algorithm, introduced by the modified strategics, is analyzed by numerical experiment.The decimal strings genetic algorithm is applied to identifying the aquifer parameters. The decimal strings genetic algorithm has been compared with the strings genetic algorithm by numerical experiment, and the results of that have also been analyzed and compared with each other. At the same time, the population size is adjusted according to practical considerations in the computation procedure. Then the influence of population size on the algorithm is studied.The genetic-simulated annealing algorithm is applied to resolving the functional optimization problems of identifying the aquifer parameters. And the applicable of the algorithm is validated by analyzing in the application of parameter identification.
