D.C. Resistivity is a experienced and traditional branch of electrical prospecting and widely applied to the area such as the exploration of mine, groundwater and engineer because of it's simple set and being easy to operate. And, the technique of analysis and interpretation of VES (vertical electric sounding) data is developing. In the 1990's ago, the VES data is analysed by contrasting observed curve with theory model curve. At present, the analysis and interpretation of VES data can be done in two ways: the one is 1-D inversion, which result is unilateralism for not taking into account the change of electrical properties of the lateral. the other is used in 2-D inversion of high-density resistivity method by inserting many data into the VES data in term of the high-density resistivity array. Nevertheless, the objectivity of the result of inversion is unreliable due to interfusing factors of manmade in the process of transforming VES data to high-density resistivity data.Accord to the FEM forward modeling of point-source electrical field on a 2-D structure, the 2-D forward modeling of resistivity and IP sounding with large distance of electrodes under terrain and flat has been implemented by some ways as follow:·Divide the forward zone into three part as object zone, survey zone and extend zone.·The survey zone is subdivided with same distance, and then is inserted electrodes as nodes of forward calculating.·Simplifying the boundary condition for the infinite boundary. The technique of man-machine interactive and visualization that is used for analysis and interpretation of electrical data has been completed. It fits not only for D.C. resistivity method but also for EM method. The forward modeling of resistivity and IP sounding on a 2-D structure with man-machine interactive and visualization has been implemented by integrating the technique of the man-machine interactive and visualization into the 2-D forward modeling, so it is possible that electrical data is processed and interpreted by the man-machine interactive and visualization way .Based on the forward modeling of resistivity sounding on a 2-D structure, the inversion of VES data on a 2-D structure under terrain and flat has been completed by using least square 2-D inversion method. The result of inversion of some model and observed data shows that the technique of 2-D inversion that is presented in this paper is available and feasible.
