Based On The The Arcims The Webgis Research And Application

With the development of distributed network technology and the proposition of the digital earth concept, traditional GIS is developed towards network GIS of the information sharing. WebGIS is the organic integration of GIS and network. It makes the application of GIS expand to every aspect of the society and has become the popular information tool.The focus of this paper is to discuss how to setup a GIS platform which based on the network and implement the relevant functions so as to provide better services for the infrastructure of the modern city information. This platform is based on both computer network and ArcIMS.First, this paper introduces the principle, construction method, platform of development and related technologies of WebGIS. Secondly, it introduces the structure and function mechanism of ArcIMS which is one of products of ESRI. Then, according to the characteristics of Geographical Information Publication Query System of city and practical requirements of users, the paper proposes the designing of the system by comparing three connectors and two Viewers of ArcIMS. At last, combining with ASP and other technologies, the paper builds a Geographical Information Publication Query System of city by using Java Viewer of ArcIMS. This system can offer geography information of relevant Shanghai on Internet. Passing through browser at home, users can query the information in Shanghai, such as streets, companies, restaurants and hospitals and so on.
